CWT MEDIA FILTER

Sub-micronic cleaning
Scalable installations
Self-cleaning
Low maintenance

CWT media filter is the most innovative filter available today. It is a permanent media unit which removes suspended particulates from industrial and process water.

As water flows through the media, the media traps particles suspended in the water, while allowing the filtered water to continues back into the system.

As the amount of trapped particles increases, the pressure differential increases. When it reaches approximately 16 psig, the media is backwashed. The accumulated particles exit via the drain, and normal operation resumes.

Total fluidization of the media during backwash allows more thorough cleaning of the media and
allows use of finer grains, taking retention to sub-micronic levels.

  • Flows to 178 GPM per vessel
  • Single and multiple vessel systems
  • Particle retention to 0.5 micron
  • 90-second backwash cycle
  • 100% media fluidization during backwash
  • Patented fluidization system
  • Patented vessel geometry facilitates backwashing and minimizes dead areas in the vessel

Cooling Tower Basin Sweeper

Why Do We Need It?

As your cooling tower pulls air in from the environment, airborne particles and contaminants form sediment in the cold water basin. This is added to any contributed by the make-up water. The build-up can be significant: a 400 ton cooling tower may accumulate 1200 lbs of sediment in two months of operation. Biofilms (breeding grounds for Legionella) and corrosion develop incurring significant costs of equipment breakdown and loss of cooling efficiency. Chemical water treatment is also impaired, hence the problems compound themselves.

Continuous cleaning rather than periodic cleaning is the only way to prevent this. Periodic cleaning allows periodic buildup, while mechanical room side-stream filtration is significantly (approx 20%) less effective.

How a Sweeper Works

A pump propels the water through a set of pipes and nozzles optimally arranged around the cold water basin to sweep the sediments off the basin floor towards to sweeper outlet and an external filter which removes sediments and impurities from the system. The process is continual and automatic and integrates with any existing water filtration system.

The Benefits are Comprehensive:

  • Preserves your designed cooling tower efficiency because the heat transfer surfaces are kept clean, nozzles unplugged.
  • Biological growth is inhibited by the agitation and removal of dirt in the basin, and within the tower, on the fill surfaces, and in the system.
  • Less corrosion in the basin and piping from suspended solid buildup
  • Easier to manually clean your tower, and less cleaning is required.
  • Protects the entire system
  • Lower cost of operations. Less energy used to attain your design cooling. Less downtime.
  • Reduces the need for additional treatments.
  • Reduces water usage and blowdown requirements.

Cost Savings:

Sweeper piping [approx $1200] on a 8×8 footprint tower basin pays for itself in approximately a year, based on average labor costs for quarterly tower basin cleaning. Additional savings and efficiency accrue because the tower is clean all the time, not just after its quarterly cleaning.
